Preliminary Proposal to Encode the Old Sogdian Script in Unicode

This is a preliminary proposal to encode the ‘Old Sogdian’ script in Unicode. This script appears in the ‘Sogdian Ancient Letters’ from the early 4th century . It developed into the ‘cursive’ / ‘sūtra’ / ‘formal’ Sogdian script by the 6th century, which in turn evolved into the ‘Uyghur’ Sogdian script by the 11th century. These later forms are more commonly associated with the term ‘Sogdian script’. An approach for encoding these forms is presented in ‘Preliminary Proposal to Encode the Sogdian Script in Unicode” (L2/15-090).
